The First Photos of Meryl Streep on the Set of 'Big Little Lies' Season 2

We finally have photographic proof that Meryl Streep was on the set of Big Little Lies. Back in January, when the news broke that the Academy Award-winning actress would be joining the cast as the mother of the now-deceased Perry (Alexander Skarsgård) and mother-in-law to Nicole Kidman’s Celeste, it felt too good to be true. To say we were excited would be the most massive of understatements. We weren’t alone: Kidman has since revealed that the role was written for Streep even though they “didn’t think they’d get her.” So, Kidman says, everyone involved “worked very hard to beg her.”

Well, it all paid off in a big way, and now Kidman is spending her days on the set with the legendary actress. We don’t know how many episodes will feature Streep’s character, Mary Louise Wright, but we do know that she’s come to Monterey out of concern for her grandchildren in the wake of her son’s death. And from the looks of the Instagram photo Kidman just posted, grandma is spending some quality time with Celeste and the kids. As Kidman writes, “First day on the set with Meryl and “my” darling boys!” Take a look:

We still have so many questions, but chances are HBO and the show’s stars won’t be answering them anytime soon—after all, the show isn’t back until 2019. Until then, we’ll have to keep wondering, Does Mary Louise know about her son’s violent tendencies? Will she be nosing around as to the circumstances of his death? Will she think Amabella’s name is ridiculous too? Only time will tell.

Streep isn’t the only new addition for season two. Variety reports that Crystal Fox has been cast as Bonnie’s (Zoe Kravitz) mother and Mo McRae will be a recurring character named Michael Perkins. Celeste’s therapist, Dr. Reisman, will also be back, and we’re sure she’ll have some thoughts about the appearance of Streep’s character. Oh, and those pesky detectives? They’ll be circling our girls around the coffee shops of Monterey too.
