The Royal Wedding countdown continues: only six more weeks until Prince Harry and Meghan Markle get hitched. And now that the wedding plans are coming to their final stages, it’s given the couple some time to plan their post-wedding travels. As it turns out, what will likely be the couple’s first official trip together is bound to be a great one: It will take the two to an event that holds particularly special significance for them.
Meghan said on Friday that her and Harry’s first official trip on the books so far is to Sydney, Australia in October for the 2018 Invictus Games, the Paralympic-style competition Harry started in 2014 for wounded veterans.
Meghan and Harry made an appearance in Bath on Friday to visit the athletes who were participating in the UK Team Trials for the upcoming games. This year the games will feature more than 500 competitors from 18 nations in 11 adaptive sports, according to ABC News.
While she was there, Meghan spoke with one of the athletes, Michael Mellon, about her travel plans. “She told me she had never been to Australia but was going to this year’s event and really looking forward to being there with Harry,” he said.
The Invictus Games are special for the two because the 2017 Games in Toronto marked their first public appearance together. The then-boyfriend and -girlfriend were spotted holding hands and kissing at the sporting events. Just two months later, they announced that they were engaged.
Sydney sounds like the perfect place to head after the wedding, especially on the cusp of summer—but we hope these two also get a chance to go on a romantic honeymoon after all the pomp and circumstance that comes with a royal wedding.
